1. Who we are

PistonProof provides remote buyer-intelligence reports for performance cars.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, PistonProof is responsible for the personal information we collect through this website and when providing our services.

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how your information is handled, contact:

2. Information we collect

When you purchase or use a PistonProof service, we may collect:

your email address;
information about the vehicle you ask us to investigate, including an advert URL, registration number and asking price;
seller messages, documents, screenshots or other evidence you choose to provide;
correspondence between you and PistonProof;
information relating to your order and payment status; and
basic technical information generated when you use our website.

We ask that you do not send us unnecessary sensitive personal information.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

process and manage your order;
investigate the vehicle you submit;
prepare and deliver your PistonProof Buyer Check;
contact you where we need additional information;
provide customer support;
maintain appropriate business and transaction records;
prevent misuse, fraud or security issues; and
operate and improve the reliability of our service.

4. Our lawful bases

Where information is necessary to provide a PistonProof service that you have purchased or requested, we process it because it is necessary to perform our contract with you.

We may process certain information where necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

For limited activities involved in operating, securing and improving PistonProof, we may rely on our legitimate interests, where those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.

We will obtain consent where the law requires us to do so.

5. Payments

Payments are processed using Stripe.

PistonProof does not need to receive or store your full card details. Stripe processes payment information in accordance with its own privacy practices.

6. Service providers

We use third-party services to operate PistonProof. These currently include:

Framer — website hosting and website functionality.
Stripe — payment processing.
Google — storage and management of customer order submissions.
Cloudflare — domain, security and email-routing infrastructure.

These providers may process information on our behalf or, depending on the service, as an independent controller.

We only use service providers where reasonably necessary to operate PistonProof.

7. Vehicle and seller information

A Buyer Check may involve information contained in public vehicle adverts or information that you provide to us about a vehicle or seller.

Please only submit seller messages, documents or other personal information where it is relevant to the vehicle assessment and you are entitled to provide it.

We use this information for the purpose of carrying out the requested Buyer Check and related customer support.

8. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing the service, handling queries and meeting applicable legal, accounting or record-keeping requirements.

Information that is no longer required will be deleted or anonymised where appropriate.

9. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information with service providers where necessary to operate PistonProof, process payments, host or store information, or provide the service.

We may also disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to protect our legal rights, users or services.

10. International processing

Some of the technology providers we use may process information outside the United Kingdom.

Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we expect the relevant provider to use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism.

11. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights including the right to:

access personal information we hold about you;
ask us to correct inaccurate information;
ask us to delete certain information;
restrict certain processing;
object to certain processing; and
receive certain information in a portable format.

Some rights are subject to legal conditions and exemptions.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you have concerns about how your personal information has been handled.

12. Cookies and website technologies

PistonProof may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for the website to function.

If we introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or similar technologies that require consent, we will provide the appropriate information and consent controls.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as PistonProof develops or our legal and operational requirements change.

The latest version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
